The 110 is priced at 35 euros and is set to ship this quarter, while the 112 is estimated to sell for 38 euros and is due to ship next quarter.

While Nokia’s woes in the smartphone market have been well documented, the company has also been losing ground in the lower-end feature-phone market — a key source of company profits.

Chinese Official Says Proview Owns iPad Trademark,

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Who owns the iPad trademark in China? Apple claims it does. But replica watches, evidently, Chinese government officials disagree.

Fu Shuangjian, the vice minister of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), an agency that enforces trade laws in China, said today that Apple gadfly Proview is still the holder of the iPad trademark in the country.

“According to the provisions of China Trademark Law, currently Shenzhen Proview is the legal registrant of the iPad trademark,” Fu told reporters at a news conference in Beijing.

Fu’s remarks are the first the SAIC has made on Apple’s ongoing battle with Proview for ownership of the iPad trademark replica watches, and while they certainly won’t determine its outcome, they do suggest that Apple’s chances of winning it in court might not be as good as evidence suggests. And if that’s truly the case replica watches, Apple may be better off settling with the opportunistic Proview — as much as the prospect of doing so must chafe.

Apple did not respond to a request for comment.

House approves tax-cut plan for small businesses;

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

WASHINGTON — The Republican-controlled House voted Thursday to extend new tax cuts to businesses with fewer than 500 employees, a move designed to contrast with a Democratic push this week to impose higher taxes on those making more than $1 million a year.

The measure was approved on a largely party-line vote of 235 to 173, with both sides contending that the GOP-backed measure is a perfect foil to Democrats’ efforts to pass the “Buffett rule,” which the Senate blocked on Monday.

In the House vote Thursday, 18 Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure, while 10 Republicans opposed it. Both Maine Reps. Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree opposed the bill.

Republicans say their $46 billion tax cut would encourage economic growth by providing relief to struggling small-business owners. Democrats, however, say the measure would provide new tax breaks to some higher-income Americans, particularly business owners who already are performing well.

Senate Democrats introduced a counterproposal Thursday that would give a 10 percent tax break only to companies that hire new employees or increase wages. The measure also would allow businesses to write off major purchases to encourage investment in new infrastructure.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va. Buy Tattoo Kits, who has championed the House bill in recent days with a series of high-profile media events Tattooing Machines, said Wednesday that his Small Business Tax Cut Act would allow companies with fewer than 500 employees tax deductions up to 20 percent of their business income.

“Our 20 percent small-business tax cut goes straight to the bottom line so small-business owners can retain more capital, invest in their businesses and create more jobs,” Cantor said, citing studies suggesting that the tax cuts could help create 100,000 more jobs annually.

The House bill will be set aside by the Senate, and President Obama has said he will veto it if it passes. The White House has said the measure is “not focused on cutting taxes for small businesses, but instead would provide tax cuts to the most fortunate.”

At a news conferences Thursday, Senate Democratic leaders blasted the House proposal as a win for well-heeled celebrities Best Tattoo Guns, including Donald Trump and Oprah Winfrey, who operate companies with fewer than 500 employees.

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said the House vote was a sign that “millionaire’s week” had arrived on Capitol Hill.

“Their bill is missing a vital two words – new jobs,” he said.

But Republican members of the House Ways and Means committee Thursday said the Senate’s approach would punish businesses that were showing signs of success and were best positioned to hire new workers.

Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, said targeting tax relief only to businesses that hire new workers would amount to picking winners and losers.

Neither party showed eagerness to negotiate a compromise. Despite the opposition, congressional Republicans believe introducing modest proposals to help businesses will demonstrate to voters that they have serious ideas for economic development that are being thwarted by Democrats.

Asked Wednesday why Republicans wanted to help firms with up to 500 employees, or why they didn’t limit the tax break to companies with a certain level of income, Cantor said that his bill’s definition of “small business” matches the definition used by the Small Business Administration.

“No more complicated than that,” he told reporters, adding later that “if you look at the numbers, if you look at those who are benefiting, overwhelmingly the beneficiaries are those in the middle class.”

Cantor called Obama’s vow to veto the bill “puzzling,” because the White House has signaled support for helping small businesses.

Senator likely to be rebuffed in News Corp inquiry

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

WASHINGTON, May 4, 2012 (Reuters) — The British judicial inquiry investigating questionable reporting practices by Rupert Murdoch’s media properties is unlikely to cooperate with a prominent senator’s request for evidence of misconduct in the United States, three people familiar with the inquiry said. News Corporation Chief Executive and Chairman Rupert Murdoch leaves after giving evidence at the Leveson Inquiry at the High Court in London in a April 26, 2012 file photo. The sources said that the judicial inquiry, created by British Prime Minister David Cameron and chaired by Sir Brian Leveson, a senior English judge, is not authorized to provide legal assistance or evidence to other bodies or organizations, including foreign government agencies or components. Nor is the inquiry investigating matters outside Britain.

Jay Rockefeller, chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, on Wednesday sent a letter to Leveson asking if his inquiry has uncovered any misconduct on the part of Murdoch’s News Corp that occurred in the United States or violated American laws.

Murdoch and his global media empire have been embroiled in a “phone hacking” and bribery scandal since last summer when evidence emerged that Murdoch’s now-shuttered News of the World tabloid hacked into voicemails of a missing British schoolgirl.

U.S. critics of Murdoch have been trying to instigate official investigations into whether similar questionable practices were pursued by Murdoch journalists in the United States, but so far U.S. probes have been limited.

Murdoch’s properties in the United States include Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Post.

Rockefeller’s request came after a British parliamentary committee issued a report on Monday that found Murdoch “not a fit person” to run a major international company, asserting that he was ultimately responsible for illegal phone hacking. [ID:nL5E8G1B3E] News Corp denounced the report’s analysis as “unjustified and highly partisan.”

Rockefeller directed his request to the independent Leveson inquiry, which is conducting an in-depth investigation into journalism practices used by British media owned by Murdoch and other proprietors.

However, there is no mechanism by which it would be within Leveson’s purview to provide official assistance to Rockefeller or his committee, said the people familiar with the inquiry.

“Not in a month of blue Sundays” would Leveson agree to pass on evidence to Rockefeller’s committee or any similar U.S. body, one source said.

A spokesman for Rockefeller said he did not have a comment beyond the five-page letter sent to Leveson.

A spokesman for Leveson confirmed that the inquiry had received Rockfeller’s letter requesting assistance, but declined any further comment.

U.S. CONNECTIONS

News Corp and its 81-year-old chief are the subject of multiple British inquiries.

The company initially tried to contain the scandal by claiming phone hacking was limited to a single “rogue” reporter. But the controversy mushroomed, and more than 40 people, most of them journalists, have since been arrested on suspicion of bribery, phone hacking or other illegal activity. No charges have yet been filed.

The FBI last summer opened an investigation into possible phone hacking or other illegal reporting activities in the United States. To date Ink Tattoo, however, the FBI inquiry has found no evidence such practices were employed by journalists in the United States, a law enforcement source said.

Lawyers for British celebrities and other individuals have said there is evidence that Murdoch journalists may have engaged in questionable surveillance when the targets were physically on U.S. soil.

The lawyers have suggested that this could lead to the filing of civil lawsuits in U.S. courts alleging illegal practices by Murdoch operatives, although no such lawsuits have been filed and there may be jurisdictional limitations.

For example, actor Jude Law chose to go through the British courts Tattoo Of Tattoo Gun, and not U.S. courts, in his phone-hacking case against Murdoch’s News International, despite claims that News of the World hacked phones or voice mails when Law and his assistant were at New York’s JFK Airport in 2003.

News International admitted “unconditionally” in British court documents earlier this year that it was liable for all Law’s claims. News Corp had no further comment.

A person familiar with legal issues surrounding such cases said that jurisdictional issues could be murky even when a target such as Law may have been physically present in the United States when the hacking occurred.

The person said U.S. legal exposure may be limited because Law is British, and the journalists or operatives who were targeting him were also likely British or based in Britain. Also, while his phone may have physically been in the United States at the time of hacking Tattoo Machine Suppliers, the server that held his voice mail messages may well have been located in Britain, too.

A U.S. law enforcement source confirmed that the FBI was still conducting a criminal investigation into possible violations by Murdoch journalists or operatives of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which bars bribes to officials of foreign governments.

But the source also said that this investigation was a long way from generating criminal charges against anyone.

U.S. officials and legal experts have said that the most likely outcome of any Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigation directed at Murdoch properties would be a large civil settlement rather than criminal charges under U.S. law.

The College of Engineering and Computer Science will offer 30 Ohio students $6,000 annual scholarships and paid research positions during their undergraduate careers.

“It’s more than a scholarship. When the students graduate from the college, they will have hands-on experience that gives them a direct line on a job upon graduation, and they will graduate virtually debt-free,” said Dean S. Narayanan.

The Air Force Research Laboratory-Industry Experiential Learning Assistantship is aimed at recruiting and retaining Ohio high school students to create a local workforce, according to the university.

Let Kids Cough

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

The Washington Postand the New York Times lead with renewed calls for a ban on over-the-counter cold remedies for young children; a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel reported yesterday that the drugs had no proven value for children under 6 years of age, and in rare cases could even be harmful. The Los Angeles Times leads, and the Wall Street Journal tops its online newsbox, with jitters in the financial markets; the Dow slipped more than 360 points amid fresh concerns about the health of the economy.

There is no evidence that over-the-counter cold and cough remedies for children actually work, an FDA panel reported yesterday, calling for a ban on products intended for children under 6; the Post notes that the panel stopped short of calling for a ban on remedies for children under 11, but acknowledged that there was no evidence the products worked for older children, either. The agency will now consider whether to follow the panel’s recommendation; in any case, the NYT reports, the advice to parents was clear: Don’t give over-the-counter remedies to young children. The WSJ gives the story big play inside, arguing that the move could force a re-evaluation of the regulatory system for pediatric treatments.

Disappointing reports from Caterpillar, Honeywell International, and Schlumberger sparked a selling frenzy on Wall Street yesterday, 20 years to the day after the Black Monday crash; the LAT reports that Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq indices all fell by about 2.6 percent as skittish investors sought refuge in Treasury bonds. The NYT  dubbed the sell-off “Gray Friday”; in a front-page report, the WSJ notes that the slump stoked fears that the housing bust could spread to other industries, damping down profits and ushering in a full-blown recession.

The fragile power-sharing deal between Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto edged closer to collapse yesterday; the Post reports that both sides pointed fingers after a bomb killed 140 of the would-be prime minister’s supporters. The NYT carries a similar report, and fronts a look at U.S. efforts to avert a breakdown of the tenuous truce between the two camps. The WSJ warns that if Bhutto uses the attacks to stir up anti-government sentiment, she could provoke the increasingly isolated Pakistani leader to declare martial law.

The Post off-leads news that the improvised explosive devices currently wreaking havoc in Iraq could also pose a threat on the home front; first responders and lawmakers say the Bush administration has been slow to provide funds Tattoo Supplies, training, or leadership to counter the increasing threat from homemade bomb attacks. The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI both acknowledged the danger; Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff said the White House would shortly issue a national strategy to coordinate anti-terror efforts.

Michael Mukasey, Bush’s pick for the post of attorney general, testified before senators this week; the NYT fronts a report suggesting that while lawmakers were pleased with Mukasey’s straightforward answers, his statements suggest that he believes Congress lacks the power to rein in the president when national security is at stake. In an editorial, the WSJ heaps praise on the nominee, calling for Democrats to give him credit for his “robust and refreshing” stand.

The Post fronts news that the government mistakenly made payments of up to $300 million to student loan companies amid confusion over subsidy rules. Education Secretary Margaret Spelling said the federal government “had some responsibility” for the error, but did not intend to try to calculate how much had been wasted or to seek reimbursement.

In a major shift in direction, the World Bank yesterday put agricultural growth at the center of global efforts to reduce poverty. In its annual development report Tattoo Supplies, the Bank argues that governments and development workers need to put new resources into boosting agricultural production, particularly in Africa, where foreign aid is increasingly being channelled into AIDS prevention and literacy programs.  “We’re not saying health and education aren’t important,” one of the report’s authors told the NYT. “But if you look at Africa, there’s no alternative to agriculture as a source of growth.”

The NYT eyes the political deals that led to the Senate intelligence committee’s approval of new eavesdropping legislation this week; after bargaining with Dick Cheney, the committee agreed to give retroactive immunity to telecom companies that carried out warrantless wiretaps on behalf of the National Security Agency. The WSJ reports that the bipartisan bill could still leave telecom companies vulnerable to lawsuits related to surveillance conducted before 9/11.

In Bolivia, local residents armed with clubs seized control of Santa Cruz airport yesterday, evicting government troops sent in to restore order after an American Airlines plane was detained in a dispute over landing fees. In a wire story, the NYT notes that the clash tapped into growing tension between the federal government and provincial elites who oppose President Evo Morales’ redistributive policies.

Is Incest a Two-Way Street

Monday, May 14th, 2012

Columbia University

David Epstein, a 46-year old political science professor at Columbia University Discount Herve leger strapless, has been charged with third-degree incest for allegedly having consensual sexual relations with his 24-year-old daughter. Under New York State law, a person is guilty of that crime when he or she has sex “with a person whom he or she knows to be related to him or her, whether through marriage or not, as an ancestor Marc Jacobs Dresses sale, descendant, brother or sister of either the whole or the half blood, uncle Missoni Dresses sale, aunt, nephew or niece.” If the allegations are true DKNY Clothes sale, that would apply to Epstein—and also to his daughter. Why wasn’t she charged for the crime as well?

Because she’s seen as the victim. Prosecutors could have made a case against the daughter, but when it comes to incest, the authorities tend to focus on one party. In this situation, “consent” is irrelevant, since it’s the act itself that constitutes the crime; and blame tends to fall on whichever half of the incestuous couple has more control. A law professor told Salon today that children are generally assumed to be part of a “protected class” even when they’re above the age of consent. So the older party tends to be considered the guilty one, although in some cases—a man caring for his bedridden and elderly mother, for example—the ages of perceived control could be reversed.

In some cases Replica Chanel Dresses, both parties are held accountable. Earlier this year, a 48-year-old man from Palm Coast, Fla., named Alton Everett Smith pleaded guilty to incest after impregnating his 27-year-old daughter. She, too, was charged with incest (after giving birth to her own half-brother) and is now serving five years of probation. * That’s despite the fact that the father was clearly in control of the relationship: He was pimping her out for sex on Craigslist. According to court records Buy Emilio Pucci Dresses, the daughter has a tattoo reading “Daddy’s Girl” on her behind.

What happens in cases in which the power dynamic is less clear—as between similarly aged siblings? As a general rule, an older sibling will be in greater legal jeopardy than a younger one, and a brother gets more blame than a sister. In 2003, a football player named Tony Washington was convicted of engaging in sexual intercourse with his biological sister. At the time of the act, she was 15 and he was 16. While Washington pleaded guilty (and is now a registered sex offender) his sister was never charged.

ReportNissan of Canada takes a pass on Murano Cros

Monday, May 14th, 2012

We’re really curious as to whether or not the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet has what it takes to succeed in the U.S. market. If our friends to the north are any indication, it won’t be such a big hit Discount Christian Audigier Clothing, especially in regions that receive snow and ice.

The Globe and Mail reports that Nissan Canada isn’t interested in selling the funky crossover/convertible, preferring instead to sit back and gauge the vehicle’s U.S. launch before committing to anything. Ian Forsyth Cheap Missoni Dresses, Nissan Canada director of planning and strategy Cheap Chanel Dresses, told the newspaper that they “continue to assess the opportunity and success in the U.S. market to see if there is evidence to support a change in our position.”

The top of the Canada sales chart is typically filled with economy cars like the Mazda3 and trucks like the Ford F-150 Buy Herve Leger v neck, so we can see why a country with six months of snow can do without the CrossCabriolet. Big Brothers

The popular Egyptian blog Manalaa.net.

So, you woke up this morning on the right side of the bed, and you decided to start a blog. Who cares? It is your own choice Replica Alain Silberstein Watches sale, you are free to blog as well as not to blog—it depends only on your interests and willingness to express yourself.

Except, in Egypt, the slogan of the State Security Police is: “We care.” And they mean it, and not in a good sense.

And so whether to blog is a life-changing decision for Egyptian youth. Of course, you are safe if you decide to write about trivial matters like your day at university or your cat having the hiccups. But once you decide to go political, the police are all ears. Literally. They will tap your phones, harass you with phone calls or by summoning you to their headquarters or stopping you on the street or intruding on your family, even by putting you under arrest.

The Egyptian press is totally under the control of the government. Not only the official newspapers, but also the opposition and independent newspapers, because they are subject to censorship. Bloggers, by contrast Replica Baume & Mercier Watches, have succeeded in providing neutral and many-sided coverage of events of national import, including the presidential referendum and parliamentary elections; the activities of new movements calling for change in the country; and police brutality toward voters, activists, and ordinary citizens. For example, in connection with the latest election last month, involving President Hosni Mubarak’s effort to amend the constitution to make permanent the infamous “law of emergency,” bloggers were a repository of reports Fake Sinn Watches for sale, photos, and videos showing vote rigging. On my blog, I posted videos of the voting officials themselves checking the “yes” box on people’s ballots. I have also posted videos, received from anonymous sources, depicting torture of suspects in police stations—including a sodomizing incident that inflamed public opinion and especially angered the police.

Our readers see blogs as transparent and credible. Not surprisingly, Egypt’s less-than-open regime sees them as a threat. The government started losing its patience in the spring of 2006, when a number of bloggers were detained for taking pictures of a sit-in protest, in which they also participated. Bloggers Alaa Seif and Malek Moustapha, and dozens of other activists, including other bloggers, were kept in inhumane conditions, in the company of real criminals, who harassed them under direct orders from state security. It took 45 days for them to be released. At that point, they were warned against participating in any forthcoming demonstrations.

But some of the bloggers did not listen. They participated in another demonstration to protest other detentions and to support the independence of the judiciary. The police were able to arrest only two of the group but made sure to make an example of them. Kareem El Shaer was beaten severely. Mohammad Sharkawy was taken to a police station, sodomized and tortured, then sent to jail for a few more weeks.

Later, in a separate case, Kareem Amer, who blogged from February 2004 to October 2006, was sentenced to four years in prison—three for insulting Islam and one for insulting the Egyptian president. He had been critical of the country’s religious institutions and of the Islamists who are behind attacks on churches. He also had declared himself a secularist. The government singled him out in order to create a precedent Replica Breguet Watches, scare other bloggers, and foster an image of bloggers as secular religion-haters. A different sort of function is served by the prosecution of an Islamist blogger, Abdul-Monem Mahmoud Bell & Ross Replica Watches, who is facing trial for belonging to the banned Muslim Brotherhood movement. The government went after Mahmoud as part of a campaign against the Brotherhood and to stifle accusations that the police are systematically torturing activists and also ordinary citizens. While Mahmoud was not one of the bloggers who posted videos of torture inside police stations, he was one of the torture victims Fake Titoni Watches, and he talked to the media about it.
